Metal Gear Solid Touch

metal_gear_solid_touch1

Konami has confirmed yesterday’s rumor that the next Metal Gear game is for the iPhone/iPod Touch. Metal Gear Solid Touch is going to be 8 levels, with more available [for purchase] in the future.

Kotaku notes that players will be able to unlock goodies like MGS iPhone wallpapers through a points system in game. Spring 2009 cant come soon enough. I dont know HOW they are going to get the controls where they dont feel awful.

Finally you get to play as Raiden!

mgslbpThough he is a bit stumpy this time. The Hong Kong PSN store leaked that there are 4 MGS costumes coming to LittleBigPlanet along with a “Level Pack” containing stickers and objects based on Metal Gear. Among the costumes you get Snake, Meryl, Screaming Mantis, and Raiden. On the website they dont have Raiden listed seperately, so maybe he only comes with the bundle?

If they change sackboy’s idle animation to punch his back when dressed as old snake (what snake does when his back starts bothering him from being crouched over) that would be hilarous. Please MM, make it so.

Metal Gear Solid 4 Review

Metal Gear Solid 4 Review

I just finished Metal Gear Solid 4. I got it last night at midnight, got home at 12:10, then played till 5 am. The next day I played from around 11am till now. Pretty much without any breaks. The whole game took me right around 20 hours to complete (And I managed to get “Eagle” for my codename). Enough anecdotes, onto the review.

Metal Gear Solid 4, is a fantastic game. It takes all of the craziness and out-there plots of the past 3 MGS games and manages to tie all of them up, and conclude every character’s story perfectly. You even come to understand why the hell Liquid pretty much took over Ocelot’s body after having his arm graphted on.

The gameplay is very similar to the old games, but with a notable update to the controls. The shooting is great, albiet way easier just using the crosshairs or investing in a scope attachment for your gun. The barrel sights and lazer sights are much harder to use because of how much of your vision is obscured by the gun (because unlike most FPS games, in metal gear you actually hold the gun up to your face to aim in first person. The amount of weapons available in the game are crazy. I picked up most of mine off of enemies and had Drebin (an armsdealer you meet early on in the game) unlock the ID bindings so that I could use them. But in Drebin’s store there are tons of guns, add-ons, and explosives. I was surprised with how much variety there was in the gameplay. From firefights, to tailing a mark, to car chases, to tracking people through the wilderness. This game has it all. Not to mention a healthy heaping of Tactical Espionage (Action). The boss fights were amazing and really fun. The lengthy codec conversation with Drebin after each BB Corps fight gets kind of tired, but luckily there are only 4 of those. I wish the story of how they became what the did came from their mouths after the fight or something.

The story is pretty much exactly what I wanted from this game. It neatly ends Solid Snake’s story and brings everything out into the light of day. I think for people that find themselves scratching their heads at the end of metal gear games, this will be a big sigh of releaf. I think David Hayter gives his best voice performance since the original Metal Gear Solid in 1998. It was pretty awesome.

Finally, the graphics. Holy Crap! This game is one of the finest games I’ve played, at times it rivals Crysis. The faces are more stylized, but they are super detailed and look fantastic. Also, it sounds weird, but I was really impressed with how realistic the tears were. The art team really pushed the PS3 to its limits, and everything runs nice and smooth. I don’t think I ever saw any slowdown.

If you own a PS3 you should already have this game. It’s the best game on the PS3 so far, and best MGS of the series in my opinion.

MGS4 Limited Edition Blu-Ray

In an interview on gametrailers.com Ryan Payton, Assistant Producer on MGS4, said that in the DVD that is going to ship with the Limited Edition of MGS will have almost 2 hours of extra content in the form of documentaries and such. With that much time dedicated to behind the scenes stuff I hope it goes into detail about the process and what they went through developing their first PS3 game.

Metal Gear Retrospective Part 1

Check out this sick retrospective that Gametrailers put up today. In the video it covers the story from the first few Metal Gear games, starting with Metal Gear on the MSX. Having never played the older Metal Gear games, it was pretty awesome getting the story explained. I’ve only heard brief summaries, and read the wikipedia articles before this. If you’re a Metal Gear fan, or want to know the MGS backstory, check it out!

New MGS4 Footage – Spoilers!

Wow. This new MGS trailer is pretty rad. It raises some confusion. I don’t want to spoil anything here but hit the jump if you don’t care. Lets just say that the trailer shows a non-Middle East location.

MGO Update: New Sneaking Mission mode and map

MGO update

I’ve been playing Metal Gear Online pretty heavily for the past few days. Today Konami announced that they have added a new game mode, and a new map to the Beta. In this new “Sneaking Mission” game mode one player plays as Snake, and the rest of the people are divided into Red and Blue teams.

As Snake, you go around trying to steal a set number of dog tags. This is done by either holding people up, or stunning them with the stun knife or CQC.

The Red and Blue teams will win by being first to take down Snake, or by having the most number of kills at the end of the round’s time.

The new map, Midtown Maelstrom (M.M.), is set in the Middle East and consists of tightly packed corridors and streets as well as some interiors.

Metal Gear Online Beta : Thoughts

So, I’ve had 2 days to play the MGO beta. After playing TF2 so often its kind of hard for me to switch to tactical shooters. I like that you can switch between auto-aim (which hits the enemy’s core) or go to manual aim and aim for the 1 hit kill of a head-shot. I also really like the capture points game mode. Its pretty awesome. Death match and Team Death match are also fun. One of my favorite techniques to use in Deathmatch is to put a Dirty Magazine on the ground and hide in my cardboard box. Then I wait for someone to pass by and get distracted by the Mag. Then I switch to manual shooting and pop them in the head. Fun times.

Solid Snake Voicemail Message

On this week’s Podcast Beyond David Hayter was a call in guest. He recorded a genaric voice mail message with the voice of Solid Snake. Unfortunately, the sound quality is not that good, but I’ve edited it a bit to get it as good as I can.

Konami ID page updated (Fixed)

Konami ID Site

I didn’t run into any problems securing my Konami ID, but I’ve been hearing a lot of stories about people who couldn’t get the site to work, or had problems with it timing out, etc. Thankfully, Konami has pushed out a new version of the form, which is much faster, and easier to read (Form design matters people!).

If you couldnt get it working before, now would be a good time to get your Konami and Game IDs. The beta is up tonight with any luck.
